When we get something wrong, we want to fix it quickly, transparently, and publicly. This Corrections Policy explains how we handle errors after publication.<\/p>\n<p>It is one of our public trust signals and is referenced from our <a href=\"\/en\/editorial-standards\/\">Editorial Standards<\/a> and our <a href=\"#\">NewsMediaOrganization schema<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>1. What counts as a correction<\/h2>\n<p>We distinguish four kinds of post-publication change:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Correction<\/strong> \u2014 a factual error in the original article (wrong name, wrong number, wrong date, wrong quote, wrong attribution).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Clarification<\/strong> \u2014 the original article was technically accurate but ambiguous, incomplete, or could mislead a reasonable reader.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Update<\/strong> \u2014 new information has emerged that materially changes the story; we update the article to reflect the new facts while preserving the original context.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Editorial change<\/strong> \u2014 non-substantive edits (typos, grammar, broken links, formatting). These do not require a public note.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The first three are documented publicly on the article. The fourth is not.<\/p>\n<h2>2. How to report an error<\/h2>\n<p>Anyone \u2014 readers, subjects of stories, sources, fellow journalists \u2014 can request a correction.<\/p>\n<p>Email <strong>corrections@saudishopper.com.sa<\/strong> with:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The article URL<\/li>\n<li>The specific text you believe is incorrect<\/li>\n<li>The correct information<\/li>\n<li>A source or document supporting the correction<\/li>\n<li>Your name and a contact method (so we can follow up if needed)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We acknowledge corrections requests within <strong>2 business days<\/strong>. If the request comes through another channel (social media, a comment, an email to a different inbox), we route it to the corrections inbox and respond there.<\/p>\n<h2>3. How we evaluate<\/h2>\n<p>A senior editor reviews each request. We:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Read the original source(s) again<\/li>\n<li>Reach out to the person, organization, or document that originally provided the information<\/li>\n<li>Consult any additional reliable sources<\/li>\n<li>Determine whether the original is wrong, ambiguous, or correct<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>If the original was wrong, we issue a correction. If it was ambiguous, we issue a clarification. If new information has changed the story, we issue an update. If the original was correct as written, we explain why to the requester and do not change the article.<\/p>\n<h2>4. How we publish the change<\/h2>\n<h3>4.1 Corrections and clarifications<\/h3>\n<p>The article is edited to fix the error. At the <strong>bottom of the article<\/strong>, we add a clearly labeled note:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Correction (DATE):<\/strong> A previous version of this article said X. The correct figure is Y. Saudi ICT Shopper News regrets the error.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The headline is updated if the error appears in it. The article&#8217;s URL does not change. The <code>dateModified<\/code> field in our metadata reflects the correction date. The original publication date remains visible.<\/p>\n<h3>4.2 Updates<\/h3>\n<p>Updates are added at the <strong>top of the article<\/strong> as an editor&#8217;s note, dated, before the original lede:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Update (DATE):<\/strong> New information has changed this story. Y has now been confirmed.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Where the change is substantial, we may publish a new article and link the original.<\/p>\n<h3>4.3 Social media<\/h3>\n<p>If the original article was shared on our social channels (X primarily), we post a follow-up tweet linking to the corrected article. We do <strong>not<\/strong> delete the original tweet unless it contains content that itself is defamatory, illegal, or harmful \u2014 in which case we delete and explain.<\/p>\n<h3>4.4 Syndication and translation<\/h3>\n<p>If the article was syndicated to a partner outlet or translated into the other language edition, we notify the partner and update the translation. The correction note is reproduced in both languages.<\/p>\n<h2>5. Unpublishing<\/h2>\n<p>We do not unpublish articles solely because the subject is unhappy with the coverage, or because the story is inconvenient for a source, an advertiser, or a third party.<\/p>\n<p>We <strong>may<\/strong> unpublish or substantially redact an article only when:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It is legally required (court order, valid SDAIA \/ regulator request)<\/li>\n<li>It contains content that violates the rights of an identifiable individual (e.g. minor&#8217;s identity, doxxing, revenge content) that cannot be fixed by editing<\/li>\n<li>It was published as the result of a fabricated source or hoax, in which case we replace it with an editor&#8217;s note explaining what happened<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>When we unpublish, the URL returns a 410 Gone or a redirect to an editor&#8217;s note explaining the action. We do not silently delete.<\/p>\n<h2>6. Retraction<\/h2>\n<p>In rare cases an entire story is fundamentally wrong. We then publish a <strong>Retraction Notice<\/strong> at the original URL, replacing the body. The notice:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>States that the article has been retracted<\/li>\n<li>Explains in plain language what was wrong and why<\/li>\n<li>Names the senior editor who approved the retraction<\/li>\n<li>Apologizes to anyone harmed<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Retractions are also announced on our homepage and on our X account for a minimum of 7 days.<\/p>\n<h2>7. Right of reply<\/h2>\n<p>Anyone named in an article may request a right-of-reply note, separately from a correction. If we believe the original article is accurate but the named person disputes it, we may add their response as a clearly labeled note (&#8220;Response from X&#8221; \/ &#8220;X disputes the characterization above and provided the following statement&#8221;) rather than amending the article itself.<\/p>\n<p>This is a courtesy mechanism. We are not obligated to publish responses that are abusive, defamatory, or unrelated to the article&#8217;s content.<\/p>\n<h2>8. Tracking and transparency<\/h2>\n<p>We log every correction internally with:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Article URL<\/li>\n<li>Date of correction<\/li>\n<li>Nature of error (factual, attribution, numerical, etc.)<\/li>\n<li>Source of the report<\/li>\n<li>Senior editor who reviewed<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Each year, in our annual editorial review, we publish aggregate statistics: number of corrections by type, response time, articles affected. This is part of our public commitment to accountability.<\/p>\n<h2>9. AI-generated content<\/h2>\n<p>Articles drafted with AI assistance are reviewed by a human editor before publication, but errors can still occur. Corrections handle AI-related errors (e.g. an invented number, a wrong title, a misattributed quote) the same way as human-introduced errors. We do not use &#8220;the AI did it&#8221; as an excuse: the editor is accountable.<\/p>\n<p>For systemic AI errors \u2014 for example, a pattern of wrong numerical conversions \u2014 we update our editorial prompts and processes, and we describe the fix in our <a href=\"\/en\/ai-use\/\">AI Use Disclosure<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>10. Time limits<\/h2>\n<p>We will consider correction requests for any article, regardless of age. Practical detail-checking becomes harder the older the article. For articles older than 2 years, we may close the matter with a &#8220;Note appended&#8221; stating the dispute without re-investigating.<\/p>\n<h2>11. If you disagree with our decision<\/h2>\n<p>If we decline to make a correction and you disagree:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Reply to the correspondence asking for review by a different senior editor.<\/li>\n<li>If still unresolved, write to the chief editor at <strong>editor@saudishopper.com.sa<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>If you remain dissatisfied, the relevant external bodies are the <strong>Saudi Ministry of Media<\/strong> for press regulation matters and the <strong>Saudi Data &amp; AI Authority (SDAIA)<\/strong> for personal-data complaints.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>12.
