{"id":16007,"date":"2020-11-13T20:26:00","date_gmt":"2020-11-13T17:26:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/saudishopper.com.sa\/en\/?p=16007"},"modified":"2026-03-27T19:45:09","modified_gmt":"2026-03-27T16:45:09","slug":"sweden-halts-5g-auction-after-court-grants-relief-to-huawei","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/saudishopper.com.sa\/en\/sweden-halts-5g-auction-after-court-grants-relief-to-huawei\/","title":{"rendered":"Sweden halts 5G auction after court grants relief to Huawei"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><br>STOCKHOLM (Reuters)<\/strong><strong>&nbsp;&#8211;<\/strong>&nbsp;Swedish telecoms regulator PTS on Monday halted 5G spectrum auctions after a court suspended parts of its decision that had excluded Chinese telecom equipment maker Huawei [HWT.UL] from 5G networks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sweden last month followed the United Kingdom in banning Huawei equipment from its 5G network citing national security risks and asked companies taking part in 5G spectrum auctions to remove components from the company by Jan. 1, 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Huawei last week appealed against the decision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Certain parts of PTS\u2019 decision prior to the upcoming 5G auctions will not apply until further notice, the Stockholm administrative court said in a decision which would allow Huawei\u2019s involvement in Sweden\u2019s impending 5G spectrum auction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Huawei has no plan for more legal action at this point and is waiting to have constructive dialogue with Swedish authorities, Kenneth Fredriksen, Huawei\u2019s executive vice president, Central East Europe and Nordic Region, told Reuters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe are willing to cooperate fully in terms of any future requirements they may put as a supplier of 5G equipment that will enable us to be a certified vendor,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The auctions were expected to start from Tuesday, and would have benefited Nokia and Ericsson as PTS had asked companies taking part in them to remove Huawei and ZTE equipment from their infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">PTS said it had informed the operators about the auction halt and would review the possibilities of starting the process as soon as possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis is not a victory for Huawei and it is not a loss for the Swedish government,\u201d said industry consultant John Strand. \u201cThe uncertainty related to the condition for the auction is the reason PTS is halting the auction process,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The auctions, which were delayed earlier due to security review, would allocate frequencies in the 3.5 GHz and 2.3 GHz bands, crucial for 5G as those bands can support advanced applications due to their high data carrying capacity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe decision granting a stay means that the terms concerning, among other things, the use of products from Huawei until further notice do not apply during the Administrative Court\u2019s continued deliberation of the case,\u201d Senior Judge Johan&nbsp;Lundmark said in a court statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Source:&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-sweden-huawei-appeal-idUSKBN27P2IA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-sweden-huawei-appeal-idUSKBN27P2IA<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>STOCKHOLM (Reuters)&nbsp;&#8211;&nbsp;Swedish telecoms regulator PTS on Monday halted 5G spectrum auctions after a court suspended parts of its decision that had excluded Chinese telecom equipment maker Huawei [HWT.UL] from 5G networks.
