{"id":19197,"date":"2021-01-25T20:30:00","date_gmt":"2021-01-25T17:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/saudishopper.com.sa\/en\/?p=19197"},"modified":"2026-03-27T20:18:05","modified_gmt":"2026-03-27T17:18:05","slug":"ford-shares-connected-car-data-with-other-manufacturers-to-help-make-journeys-safer-even-if-you-dont-drive-a-ford","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/saudishopper.com.sa\/en\/ford-shares-connected-car-data-with-other-manufacturers-to-help-make-journeys-safer-even-if-you-dont-drive-a-ford\/","title":{"rendered":"Ford Shares Connected Car Data with Other Manufacturers to Help Make Journeys Safer \u2013 Even if You Don\u2019t Drive a Ford"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-layout-flex wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link\" href=\"https:\/\/saudishopper.com.sa\/ar\/?p=35774\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u0639\u0631\u0628\u064a<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Ford cars to share information about potential road safety incidents to help warn road users \u2013 including drivers of other manufacturer vehicles, as well as Fords \u2013 of hazards ahead<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Local Hazard Information connected car technology already warns other Ford drivers of safety incidents; now, even more, drivers will benefit from road safety warnings.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Reciprocal agreement part of EC-backed Data for Road Safety; partners include BMW, Volvo, Mercedes-Benz, TomTom, HERE Technologies, and EU traffic management centers<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>JEDDAH, KSA, January 25, 2021\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 Ford will help drivers of connected vehicles across multiple brands with a warning of potentially dangerous driving conditions on the road ahead as part of a landmark road safety data-sharing agreement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/media.ford.com\/content\/fordmedia\/feu\/en\/news\/2020\/01\/13\/welcome-to-the-future--connected-car-technology-now-warns-driver.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Local Haza<\/a>rd Information, introduced with the new Ford Puma in early 2020 and now being enabled on newly built Fords, including the all-new Escape, can already warn drivers of road safety dangers that might be around the corner.\u00a01\u00a0With the new agreement, vehicles from other manufacturers will now be able to identify and share information about hazards they encounter and improve road safety by enabling more drivers to prepare for dangers ahead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cConnected vehicles help drivers to anticipate hazards that may be lurking just around the next bend,\u201d said Peter Geffers, manager, Connected Vehicles, Ford of Europe. \u201cRoad-safety data sharing ecosystems are more effective the more vehicles and telematics sources they include; extending the benefits of this technology to those who do not drive Ford cars represents a significant step forwards.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Led by the European Commission-backed Data for Road Safety partnership, the agreement follows a 16-month proof of concept during which tens of millions of Safety\u2011Related Traffic Information (SRTI) messages \u2013 such as broken-down vehicles, slippery roads, or reduced visibility \u2013 were exchanged between different vehicles. Partners alongside Ford include BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Volvo, with the data-sharing ecosystem now open to new participants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Anonymized data from the vehicle, such as fog lights, emergency braking, or airbag activation, is computed onboard to determine potential hazards&#8217; presence and location. Using the FordPass Connect modem, these warning messages are sent to a secure Ford server. The data is distributed to SRTI partners who collate hazard messages from various sources and then share them with multiple vehicle brands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Any relevant SRTI messages are immediately sent \u2013 again, using cellular communications \u2013 to vehicles in the vicinity of the potential hazard and appear on the driver\u2019s dashboard display. As well as warning other drivers, the information can be used to alert emergency services, providing accurate location data in seconds to help accelerate assistance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe Data for Road Safety ecosystem is a public-private partnership that delivers enriched data to improve road safety in a very tangible way, so it is a win-win situation for society as a whole,\u201d said Joost Vantomme, chairman of the new SRTI ecosystem. \u201cThe vehicle manufacturers participating in the project are willing to share data daily and will
