According to the research data analyzed and published by&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/compraracciones.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Comprar Acciones<\/a>, Apple took the first spot with purchases worth $53.62 billion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Compared to Apple\u2019s 2019 expenditure, which amounted to $43.24 billion, that was an increase of 24% year-over-year (YoY). Also, Apple accounted for an 11.9% share of the global semiconductor market in 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Samsung occupied a distant second spot, spending $36.42 billion, a 20.4% increase over 2019\u2019s $30.25 billion. Its market share was 8.1%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Though Huawei managed to retain its third spot, its spending reduced considerably in comparison to 2019. Due to US government trade restrictions on the company, its ability to purchase semiconductors was limited. As a result, both its smartphone supply and market share decreased over the year. Its spending on semiconductors totaled $19.09 billion in 2020, down by 23.5% from $24.93 billion in 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Huawei\u2019s market share was slightly higher than the fourth-ranked company, at 4.2% versus 4.1% for Lenovo. ($10.99 billion), Xiaomi ($8.79 billion), Hon Hain Precision ($5.73 billion) and Hewlett Packard ($5.57 billion).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In total, the top 10 semiconductor buyers in 2020 spent a cumulative $188.73 billion, marking a 10% increase over 2019. They accounted for a 42% share of the global market, which was worth $449.84 billion during the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Apple\u2019s iPhone Sales Soar by 17% in FY21 Q1<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Xiaomi had the highest increase in spending among the top 10 companies, growing by 26% YoY. Its performance was attributed to the fact that it maintained an online-driven sales model during the pandemic period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Furthermore, sanctions on Huawei made it possible for the company to gain additional smartphone market share. These two factors meant that its smartphone business was not adversely impacted. It also increased semiconductor spending during the year as a result of robust performance in various consumer IoT devices. These included wearables, smart TVs and smart home appliances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Apple retained the top spot thanks to heightened demand for tablets and mobile PCs as consumers shifted to a work-from-home model. Its semiconductor demand also increased due to a transition from Intel processors to Apple silicon chips for the Mac line of products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Apple reported an increase of over 17% in iPhone sales during its fiscal first quarter. iPhone revenue hit $65.60 billion against an expected $59.80 billion according to Refinitiv analysts. The tech giant posted double-digit growth in every product segment, driving its revenue past $100 billion for the first time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Its quarterly sales shot up by 21% sending revenue to $111.4 billion against an expected $103.28 billion. Services revenue shot up by 24% to $15.76 billion, Mac revenue by 21% to $8.68 billion and iPad revenue by 41% to $8.44 billion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Samsung\u2019s Mobile Business Slumps by 11% in Q4 2020<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For Samsung, decreased competition from Huawei and high demand for data center solid state drives (SSDs) drove increased chip spending in 2020. Many of its SSDs are used on cloud servers and PCs, which saw strong demand arising from e-learning and remote work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In stark contrast to Apple, Samsung\u2019s mobile segment sales plummeted by 11% in Q4 2020. According to its earnings report, the company attributed the decline in mobile revenue to intense competition during the year-end season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, its display segment had the highest quarterly earnings on record, driving operating profit up by 26.4%. Revenue rose by 2.78% 236.81 trillion won ($211.5 billion).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The company said it anticipates strong performance in Q1 2021 driven by robust sales of the flagship Galaxy S21 series smartphones. According to a Wall Street Journal report, it is contemplating the construction of a $17 billion chip factory in the US in 2021. Its main competitor in the chip-making business, TSMC, operates from Taiwan. TSMC, which supplies Apple\u2019s chips, announced plans for a $12 billion US plant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If Samsung\u2019s move works out, it would start construction in Q2 2020 and the plant would start operating by Q3 2023.
