{"id":31078,"date":"2022-01-12T16:00:43","date_gmt":"2022-01-12T13:00:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/saudishopper.com.sa\/en\/?p=31078"},"modified":"2026-03-28T00:07:56","modified_gmt":"2026-03-27T21:07:56","slug":"huawei-ranks-no-5-in-u-s-patents-in-sign-of-chinese-growth","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/saudishopper.com.sa\/en\/huawei-ranks-no-5-in-u-s-patents-in-sign-of-chinese-growth\/","title":{"rendered":"Huawei Ranks No. 5 in U.S. Patents in Sign of Chinese Growth"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Huawei is continuing to move up the list of companies getting the most U.S. patents, according to a new study of patenting activity that shows Chinese firms are increasingly responsible for a greater share of the world\u2019s innovation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Huawei received 2,770 U.S. patents last year, putting it at No. 5 behind perennial top patent-getter International Business Machines Corp. according to the study by Fairview Research\u2019s IFI Claims Patent Services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Huawei\u2019s success in obtaining patents comes even as its networking equipment is shut out of the American market and it\u2019s been cut off from procuring components needed for its phones by the Biden administration. The U.S. government has accused the Shenzhen-based company of being a security threat, charges that Huawei denies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Huawei jumped from ninth place in part because of declines by other companies as the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office issued 7% fewer patents last year.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/quote\/005930:KS\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Samsung Electronics Co.<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/quote\/7751:JP\">Canon Inc.<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/quote\/TSM:US\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co.<\/a>\u00a0rounded out the top five patent recipients.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Chinese companies also dominate when considering global patent\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ificlaims.com\/rankings-global-assets-2021.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ownership<\/a>, according to the analytics firm. Samsung remains the biggest holder of patented inventions globally. But six Chinese entities, including Huawei and the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/quote\/CHACSCIZ:CH\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Chinese Academy of Sciences<\/a>, hold more patents on inventions than IBM, which ranks No. 8 on that list. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cEverywhere you turn, they seem to be establishing themselves, or seeking to establish themselves, as major players,\u201d said IFI Claims Chief Executive Officer Mike Baycroft. \u201cYou hear these stories that the Chinese market is going to take over the world. Here, it\u2019s starting to become real.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Recently, Huawei also ranked second in the 2021\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www-file.huawei.com\/-\/media\/corporate\/pdf\/news\/eu-rd-scoreboard.pdf?la=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">EU Industrial R&amp;D Investment Scoreboard<\/a>, up from third place in the previous year\u2019s edition. The 2021 EU Industrial R&amp;D Investment Scoreboard is a European Commission publication that ranks the research investment levels of 2,500 companies around the world that comprise 90% of the world\u2019s business-funded R&amp;D.
