{"id":38293,"date":"2022-11-22T10:39:46","date_gmt":"2022-11-22T07:39:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/saudishopper.com.sa\/en\/?p=38293"},"modified":"2026-03-28T02:17:56","modified_gmt":"2026-03-27T23:17:56","slug":"cisco-reveals-top-cybersecurity-threats-trends-in-q3-2022-ransomware-accounts-for-40-of-total-cyberattacks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/saudishopper.com.sa\/en\/cisco-reveals-top-cybersecurity-threats-trends-in-q3-2022-ransomware-accounts-for-40-of-total-cyberattacks\/","title":{"rendered":"<em><strong>Cisco Reveals Top Cybersecurity Threats Trends in Q3 2022:\u00a0Ransomware accounts for 40% of total cyberattacks<\/strong><\/em>"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia: 22 November 2022 \u2013<\/strong>\u00a0Cisco Talos, one of the world\u2019s largest private threat intelligence teams released its\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/blog.talosintelligence.com\/quarterly-report-incident-response-trends-in-q3-2022\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">latest\u00a0quarterly report<\/a>\u00a0that\u00a0examines incident response trends and global cyber threats.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Key findings:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>For the first time since compiling these reports, Cisco Talos Incident Response saw an equal number of ransomware and pre-ransomware engagements, making up nearly 40 percent of threats this quarter.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The education sector was the most targeted by attackers this quarter, closely followed by the financial services, government, and energy sectors, respectively. For the first time since Quarter 4 2021, the telecommunications sector was not the top-targeted vertical. While the reason for the education sector being more frequently targeted this quarter is unknown, this is a popular time of year for adversaries to target education institutions as students and teachers have returned to school.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Q3 was also characterized by previously seen high-profile ransomware variants such as Hive and Vice Society and a new ransomware family (Black Basta) that first emerged in April 2022 and had yet to be observed in incident response engagements.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cisco Talos also continued to observe threats that have been consistently present in previous quarters, including phishing and Business Email Compromise (BEC), attempts to exploit weaknesses or vulnerabilities in public-facing applications, and insider threats.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Within enterprises, the lack of Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) remains one of the biggest obstacles to corporate security, according to the report. Nearly 18% of engagements either had no MFA or only had it enabled on a handful of accounts and critical services, allowing the cybercriminal to log in and authenticate.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Commenting on the report\u2019s findings,&nbsp;<strong>Fady Younes, Cybersecurity Director, EMEA Service Providers and MEA, Cisco,<\/strong>said: \u201cToday, more than ever, in an increasingly connected and digital age, cybersecurity is of the utmost importance.&nbsp;As enterprises and governments across the region seek to&nbsp;safeguard their data and businesses, Cisco continues to support our customers, helping drive rapid detection and protection against cyber risks.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He added: \u2018Security is a game of data.
