In the current digital era, 5G\u00a0technology is at the forefront of innovations in the\u00a0Information\u00a0and Communications Technology\u00a0industry\u00a0(ICT)\u00a0as it carries with it great opportunities for the development of businesses and\u00a0services\u00a0to end users,\u00a0thus contributing to supporting the economic recovery of countries, especially after years of stagnation following the COVID-19 pandemic, oil price fluctuations, the current state of war between Russia and Ukraine and the new international alliances that rely heavily on the capabilities of technology to make a difference in the arena of competition.<\/sub><\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the most important features of\u00a0\u00a05G\u00a0is its positive impact on the <\/sub>future of\u00a0various sectors and industries at the level of upgrading communication and providing more digital services <\/sub>and\u00a0taking advantage of the integration capabilities with other vital technologies such as artificial intelligence\u00a0(A.I.<\/sub>), cloud, computing, and industrial applications, all of which inject new stuff on the path of digital transformation and social and economic development.\u00a0<\/sub><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Experts say that whoever\u00a0owns the keys to<\/sub> the next generations of\u00a0telecommunications\u00a0technology, such as the currently booming\u00a0fifth generation (5G), the fast approaching\u00a05.5G, and the sixth generation (6G)\u00a0with its R&D competition, is already heating globally.<\/sub><\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the main reasons for the tension between the United States and China is <\/sub>the struggle to control advanced\u00a0technologies, specifically the\u00a0global\u00a05G\u00a0market. The United States is confident that China’s strategy of focusing on technological superiority and conquering global markets through its giant companies such as Huawei is a significant concern for its history of dominance of technology globally. This has led to a sustained crackdown on China and its companies in the context of allegations\u00a0that China’s technology threatens national security and many other claims related to\u00a0cybersecurity breaches.<\/sub><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In cooperation with its various allies, the U.S. campaign against China and its companies is to ban Chinese companies from accessing <\/sub>products that might contribute to their technological superiority, most importantly\u00a0advanced\u00a0chips. The United States is trying to convince all its allies not to accept 5G technology from China’s most influential companies, such as the government\u00a0ZTE and privately owned\u00a0Huawei\u00a0who already\u00a0established itself as a fierce competitor in the 5G market. Hence, the competition arena in the field of 5G is driven by political alliances, and decisions are made with geopolitical motives away from scientific facts\u00a0and\u00a0factual shreds of evidence. There is a real need\u00a0to neutralize technology from politics,\u00a0not limit the\u00a0spread of its positive benefits to humanity.<\/sub><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many\u00a0Middle East countries have managed to create a good balance<\/sub> between the U.S. and China in buying and utilizing\u00a0technology. The GCC countries, for example, have become world leaders in 5G deployments and have had no\u00a0conservations on\u00a0using 5G technology from China’s most influential company, Huawei. But the U.S. campaign against Huawei, which\u00a0does not stop, is gaining momentum, and its influence reaches countries in the region planning\u00a0l\u00a0to launch 5G,\u00a0especially countries with strategic alliances with the United States.<\/sub><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jordan is the current example, as the announcement of the 5G launch is\u00a0already made. The<\/sub> project would be\u00a0a turning point in Jordan’s digitalization\u00a0journey\u00a0as\u00a0it is expected to achieve significant gains in-line with\u00a0Jordan’s\u00a0EconomicModernization\u00a0Vision.<\/sub><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Jordanian government needs to address<\/sub> significant challenges related\u00a0to the project. The privately owned three telecom operator companies in Jordan\u00a0can\u00a0not\u00a0do\u00a0the project without the support of the government, which has already\u00a0provided\u00a0a stimulus\u00a0package\u00a0and incentives to carriers,\u00a0not sufficient from their point of view\u00a0as it does not address their real concerns.<\/sub><\/p>\n\n\n\n

As for the selection of vendors that will build 5G networks for telecom companies in Jordan, it is essential for them <\/sub>that the Jordanian government focus\u00a0on ensuring a\u00a0healthy\u00a0business environment and fair, transparent competition opportunities for all vendors interested in bidding for the project,\u00a0\u00a0regardless of the nationality of the supplier. The enabling business environment for global suppliers will encourage them to offer\u00a0their\u00a0top\u00a0expertise and capabilities to support Jordan\u00a0in spreading\u00a0\u00a05G\u00a0benefits\u00a0to all\u00a0verticals,\u00a0industries\u00a0and citizens.\u00a0. It is vital to\u00a0provide equal opportunities for suppliers based on\u00a0their\u00a0competencies, experience, price\u00a0compatibility\u00a0and adhering to the\u00a0international standards, apart from other considerations such as global political\u00a0alliances.<\/sub><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Facts indicate\u00a0that Huawei is the\u00a0first-choice\u00a0candidate to support the 5G\u00a0launch project in Jordan\u00a0due\u00a0to its\u00a0existing footprint\u00a0in\u00a0the\u00a0telecommunications market with the three operators\u00a0Zain,\u00a0Orange,<\/sub> and Umniah\u00a0and\u00a0its\u00a0advanced\u00a0innovations\u00a0in 5G\u00a0outperforming competitors, and its global expertise and latest solutions, products, services and best business use cases proven success in many\u00a0markets regionally and globally. Jordan should benefit from the experiences of other countries, such as the\u00a0\u00a0GCC, which has become a world leader in 5G implementation in partnership with Huawei<\/sub> and become a global model to follow.<\/sub><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The launch of 5G in Jordan is an example of a decision that must be taken away from considerations other than the technology <\/sub>domain and its advantages to citizens. Suppose Jordan decides to deal with the\u00a0\u00a05G launch\u00a0project in light of its alliances with the United States and block\u00a0Huawei from working on building the 5G network business by the NATO and U.S. intelligence recommendations. In that case, Jordan could lose many gains from the project,\u00a0and a state of fluctuation may encounter the\u00a0relations with China,\u00a0Jordan’s most important economic partner.<\/sub><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pressure on\u00a0telecommunications companies in Jordan under the\u00a0intelligence\u00a0direction to refuse to work with Huawei and to provide <\/sub>them with alternatives such as ad-free spectrum or financial compensation\u00a0may not be realistic\u00a0as, most importantly, telecom operators\u00a0are keen not to miss on the opportunity to build on their existing telecom\u00a0network successes with Huawei.<\/sub><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Industry experts say that Huawei’s <\/sub>leadership in 5G was due to the early and significant investments in R&D. The company began research and development\u00a0in\u00a05G\u00a0in 2009 and\u00a0spent\u00a0132.5 more billion\u00a0Dollars over ten years. In 2021\u00a0\u00a0alone,\u00a0it invested 22.4 Billion Dollars\u00a0in\u00a0R&D,\u00a0which counts for 22.4%\u00a0of its annual revenue. Huawei has the most significant number of patents globally, and by 2021 has received more than 110,000 patents, contributing to the 5G business boom. Huawei’s 5G base stations have been at the forefront of innovations that have passed the GSMA’s network security test, the most accredited and trusted in the telecom\u00a0industry. The company holds a leading position in cybersecurity at the global level. It has built over\u00a01500\u00a0telecommunications networks serving more than\u00a0one-third of the world’s population in more than 170 countries and\u00a0regions.<\/sub><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
