These and other findings are in Kaspersky\u2019s new\u00a0<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kaspersky.com\/blog\/cryptocurrency-survey-report-2022\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>report<\/strong><\/a><strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Are users familiar with cryptocurrency threats?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the recent\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kaspersky.com\/blog\/cryptocurrency-survey-report-2022\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">survey<\/a>*, a significant proportion of individuals are unaware of the potential threats faced by cryptocurrency owners.\u00a0Despite the increasing popularity of cryptocurrency, only 36<a>%<\/a><a href=\"\/\/37533AF2-ACF8-4C50-B3E5-C928931BEA0C#_msocom_1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">[AO1]<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0of respondents felt extremely or very well informed about the potential risks of using it, while 10<a>%<\/a><a href=\"applewebdata:\/\/37533AF2-ACF8-4C50-B3E5-C928931BEA0C#_msocom_2\">[AO2]<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0had no information at all. Moreover, awareness of these threats decreases with age, with younger consumers under 35 being more informed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cyber\u00a0threats,\u00a0such\u00a0as\u00a0virtual\u00a0theft\u00a0and\u00a0scams,\u00a0were\u00a0among\u00a0the\u00a0most\u00a0commonly\u00a0cited\u00a0negative\u00a0aspects\u00a0of\u00a0using\u00a0cryptocurrency,\u00a0<a>with<\/a>31<a>%<\/a><a href=\"\/\/37533AF2-ACF8-4C50-B3E5-C928931BEA0C#_msocom_3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">[AO3]<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0and\u00a024<a>%<\/a><a href=\"\/\/37533AF2-ACF8-4C50-B3E5-C928931BEA0C#_msocom_4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">[AO4]<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0of\u00a0respondents\u00a0in Saudi\u00a0respectively\u00a0highlighting\u00a0them\u00a0as\u00a0their\u00a0top\u00a0concerns.\u00a0<a href=\"applewebdata:\/\/37533AF2-ACF8-4C50-B3E5-C928931BEA0C#_msocom_5\">[ru5]<\/a>\u00a0While 32<a>%<\/a><a href=\"applewebdata:\/\/37533AF2-ACF8-4C50-B3E5-C928931BEA0C#_msocom_6\">[AO6]<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0of respondents were unaware they could become a target of crypto threats &#8211; even if they do not own cryptocurrency. It is worth noting that anyone can become a target for cryptominers \u2013 programs that secretly generate cryptocurrency for their owners using the resources of other computers, whether they own cryptocurrency or not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/saudishopper.com.sa\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Saudi-Arabia-EN_ssict_1200_699.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"596\" src=\"https:\/\/saudishopper.com.sa\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Saudi-Arabia-EN_ssict_1200_699-1024x596.webp\" alt=\"Saudi Arabia - EN_ssict_1200_699\" class=\"wp-image-39613\" srcset=\"https:\/\/saudishopper.com.sa\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Saudi-Arabia-EN_ssict_1200_699-1024x596.webp 1024w, https:\/\/saudishopper.com.sa\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Saudi-Arabia-EN_ssict_1200_699-300x175.webp 300w, https:\/\/saudishopper.com.sa\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Saudi-Arabia-EN_ssict_1200_699-768x447.webp 768w, https:\/\/saudishopper.com.sa\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Saudi-Arabia-EN_ssict_1200_699-1080x629.webp 1080w, https:\/\/saudishopper.com.sa\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Saudi-Arabia-EN_ssict_1200_699.webp 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Threats concerns vary by region<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The major concerns i<a>n Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates are crypto-investment fraud (73%and 70%, respectively), and fake crypto-exchanges (86%) in Saudi Arabia<\/a>, as well as fake crypto-currency apps in the UAE at (71%).<a href=\"applewebdata:\/\/37533AF2-ACF8-4C50-B3E5-C928931BEA0C#_msocom_8\">[AO8]<\/a>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Does cryptocurrency need more protection?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">More than half (74%) of all respondents had been affected by cryptocurrency crime in some way, revealing the wide range of criminal activities in the field. Additionally,&nbsp;57<a>%<\/a><a href=\"applewebdata:\/\/37533AF2-ACF8-4C50-B3E5-C928931BEA0C#_msocom_9\">[AO9]<\/a>&nbsp;&nbsp;of surveyed individuals did not believe that current protection systems for cryptocurrency were effective, with 33<a>%<\/a><a href=\"applewebdata:\/\/37533AF2-ACF8-4C50-B3E5-C928931BEA0C#_msocom_10\">[AO10]<\/a>&nbsp;&nbsp;of current crypto owners&nbsp;in Saudi Arabia&nbsp;not believing existing protection systems to be sufficient.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cDespite the recent cryptocurrency market downturn, the level of malicious activity in the field has not decreased.&nbsp;<\/em><em>The crypto industry, still in its infancy, remains a prime target for fraudsters. This survey emphasizes the need for increased awareness and education about the potential risks faced by cryptocurrency owners. Keep them private and never share them with anyone.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Educate yourself: stay informed about the latest cyber threats and best practices to keep your cryptocurrency safe.
