A new global survey conducted by Kaspersky \u201cThe smart home of almost everything: From the fridge to TV, how we\u2019ll embrace the year of the virtual assistant in 2023\u201d, explores the key digital habits, obstacles and smart home device usage.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A new Kaspersky <\/strong>survey<\/strong><\/a> exploring the use of smart home <\/strong>devices and attitudes toward their security in the META region <\/strong>reveals more than half of consumers (51%) who own this equipment feel responsible for its cybersecurity. Millennials aged 25-34 care most about the protection of smart devices in their home.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The global smart home industry highlights rapid consumer growth, building expectations with market analysts, with some segments such as smart security systems and smart locks expected to more than double to $106.3 billion<\/a>[1]<\/sup><\/a> and $13.1 billion<\/a>[2]<\/sup><\/a> by 2030, respectively. The new Kaspersky report unveils how the increasing use of smart devices affects users\u2019 attitude toward security and protection issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The willingness to accept responsibility for the protection of smart gadgets at home can be explained by fears of being hacked. <\/strong>The survey shows, that more than half of users worried about their home network being hacked, and Wi-Fi routers or internet-connected camera systems spying on them (58%). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The biggest concerns were raised about the security of home monitoring systems, internet-connected cameras and smart doors and locks, with about a third of users admitting to being very concerned about their security and protection. Thus, 32% of monitoring\/security system users admitted to being \u201cvery concerned\u201d about their gadgets\u2019 security and protection. An additional 53% were either \u201cconcerned\u201d or \u201csomewhat concerned\u201d. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The list of worrisome gadgets includes internet-connected cameras for monitoring babies and pets and smart doors and locks, with 33% and 35% saying their security is a \u201cvery concerning issue\u201d in their opinion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among the devices that cause users the least trouble are smart cleaning devices such as vacuum cleaners connected to the internet, with 34% saying their security doesn\u2019t concern them at all. The same stands for climate control systems (29%) and smart lighting (32%).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAs smart device adoption rates grow, we see users are paying more attention to security considerations and are trying to ensure a painless experience as they build long-term relationships with their gadgets. It looks like good digital habits are more inherent in millennials, which is a positive sign for cybersecurity. This also suggests that in future, we might see IoT device producers and internet service providers supporting their work by paying more attention to cybersecurity, possibly integrating cybersecurity features into their offering, to meet consumers\u2019 expectations and provide them with a desired level of protection,\u201d<\/em> comments Marina Titova, VP Consumer Product Marketing at Kaspersky.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
