Telia Carrier announced today that it has added a new point-of-presence (PoP) to its network, providing agile connectivity services for a booming economic sector in Berlin, Germany. The new data center, Carrier-Colo, owned by I/P/B/, is one of the most connected facilities in the region providing connectivity and other IP services to international, national and regional start-ups, carriers, cloud and content providers. Located between Frankfurt, Germany and Warsaw, Poland, the new PoP builds upon Telia Carrier’s recently added, low latency, DWDM route, the Frankfurt – Warsaw Express, to meet increased demand in in the German capital.

“Prior to this new PoP, connectivity from Berlin to other business centers in the region consisted of longer routes with higher latency. This PoP is a microcosm of the technological growth that has put Berlin on the map as a city where high speed, high quality IP services are readily available for carriers, content providers, cloud providers and mobile operators,” said Christoph Lannert, Regional Sales Director for Telia Carrier. “The Frankfurt-Warsaw Express is a vital artery of connectivity throughout the region, and Telia Carrier is in prime position to connect customers with low latency services via our global fiber backbone.”

The welcoming culture in Berlin, along with heavy investment in technology, has resulted in an increase in start-ups and large companies moving to the area. As a result, the demand for connectivity services will continue to grow in order to support continued economic growth. Working with IPB, a local internet service provider (ISP), Telia Carrier can service a variety of start-ups, as well as established and international businesses needing a foothold in Berlin. The IPB facility features the highest number of networks and fiber connectivity in the region. The global wholesale carrier has already brought several customers online, and is optimistic it can add more by leveraging its relationship with IPB.

“We are very pleased to have Telia Carrier, one of the world’s leading network providers, and their services featured in our facility in Berlin. For our customers, this means that they can receive worldwide connectivity with nearly unlimited bandwidth and a highly reliable network backbone that has extremely low latency,” said Steffen David, Managing Director for IPB. “Berlin is quickly growing as a business destination, so we require partners who are extremely responsive and provide the stability needed to reliably deliver services to customers throughout the region. Telia Carrier has proven to be that partner and we look forward to the sustained growth that their presence helps bring to IPB and customers in the region as a whole.”

Telia Carrier’s global fiber backbone has grown organically, without acquisitions, and is the first to be 100G-enabled in both Europe and North America. It is also the first network to successfully transmit 1 Tb/s on its US network. According to Dyn Research’s global backbone rankings, AS1299, Telia Carrier’s global IP backbone, is currently ranked top-two. Telia Carrier’s rapid growth and ascension through the rankings was highlighted in Dyn’s ‘Baker’s Dozen’ report. The company enables worldwide connectivity by connecting more than 220 Points of Presence (PoPs) across Europe, North America, Asia, and the Middle East including over 70 PoPs in North America alone.
