With the growing adoption of the USB Type-C standard by new platforms and devices, Transcend Information, Inc. (Transcend), a leading manufacturer of storage and multimedia products, has developed a wide range of USB Type-C products including USB flash drives, external hard drives, and card readers. These devices enable easy and efficient file transfer between the latest USB Type-C mobile devices and computers.

Why USB Type-C?
While USB Type-A and Type-B connectors prevail, the new USB Type-C connector has been released to gradually replace the others. In addition to the capabilities of power charging at up to 100 watts and video output (HDMI/ VGA/ DisplayPort), USB Type-C possesses two other features that differentiate it from USB Type-A and Type-B connectors. First, USB Type-A and Type-B are non-reversible, meaning time wasted ensuring a correct plug-in. Second, they cannot be used across multiple platforms. But that’s all changing, with the future-proof Type C standard marching toward ubiquity.

USB Type-C is a hardware change, rather than an interface standard change (like USB 2.0 to USB 3.0). Type-C devices are easy to insert, being reversible. This symmetrical oval plug will replace Type A and B, respectively the rectangular plug found on such things as thumb drives, and that found to connect to power-drawing devices, like cell phones. For example, Transcend StoreJet 25MC portable drive can be connected to a smartphone with a USB Type-C port and access file directly without the need for any OTG dongles.

With connectors simplified to a single type, USB Type-C allows for use across multiple platforms, meaning that you only need one cable for both PC and handheld devices. For example, Transcend JetFlash flash drives and card readers equipped with a USB Type-C connector allow free data transfers among various platforms without the need to worry about port shapes.

Transcend USB Type-C Product Line-up
Transcend has developed a wide range of USB Type-C products including USB flash drives, external hard drives, and card readers to expand storage for all USB Type-C devices. The StoreJet 25MC is a high capacity portable hard drive that can keep up with you wherever you go. Its three-stage shock protection system meets U.S. military drop-test standards and offers superior protection for data stored. By using the SuperSpeed USB 3.1 Gen 1 interface, the StoreJet 25MC allows users to enjoy ultra-fast file transfer rates.

The smallest products in the range, the Transcend JetFlash 850S and JetFlash 890S USB Type-C flash drives equipped with the latest USB 3.1 Type-C connector with USB OTG (On-The-Go) technology for high speed data transfer. Both USB flash drives use innovative Chip On Board (COB) technology and sport a metallic casing, for great dust and splash resistance. In addition, the JetFlash 890S features dual connectors- a reversible USB Type-C connector and a standard USB 3.1 (Gen 1) Type-A connector – that is designed to transfer and back up files between multiple devices, whether it has a USB Type-C port or the traditional USB Type-A port.

For new computer platforms with a USB Type-C port, Transcend’s 4-slot RDC8K card reader can support a wide variety of flash cards, including SD cards, microSD cards, CF cards, and Memory Stick (MS) flash cards. Equipped with a USB 3.1 Gen 1 interface, the RDC8K is an ideal choice for fast and efficient data transfer from a flash card to a laptop with USB Type-C ports. On the other hand, Transcend’s RDC2K smart reader is an OTG card reader specifically designed for USB Type-C equipped Android smartphones and tablets. In addition to an SD card slot and a microSD card slot, the RDC2K has also a standard USB Type-A port that allows users to connect accessories such as USB flash drives, keyboards, or mice to their Android devices.
