The overall score reached 76.04%, up from 74.69% in 2025, with participation from 54 government entities compared to 49 in the previous cycle. The Digital Government Authority released the fourth edition of the “Emerging Technologies Adoption Readiness Index” for 2026, tracking the acceleration of government readiness across multiple technical capabilities.<\/p>
Ahmad bin Mohammed Al-Suwaiyan, Governor of the Digital Government Authority, said the results reflect significant efforts from government agencies moving from experimental phases into active deployment of emerging technologies. “Emerging technologies are no longer experimental options,” he stated. “They have become fundamental to achieving government performance efficiency, increasing productivity, and accelerating delivery in ways that improve citizen experience.”<\/p>
The transition reflects a shift in how Saudi government institutions approach digital capability building. Agencies now view these technologies as core operational tools rather than optional innovations, contributing directly to improved service delivery and measurable outcomes across sectors.<\/p>
The index measured four distinct capability areas. Research capacity scored 78.07%, communication capacity reached 75.18%, proof capacity scored 73.92%, and integration capacity achieved 77.00%. These results indicate strong progress across technical foundations required for digital security and operational effectiveness in government service delivery.<\/p>
Top-performing agencies earned “distinguished” status for 2026: the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Energy, Communications and Space Technology Authority, and the Saudi Industrial Development Authority. An additional 16 agencies achieved “advanced” status, including the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources, King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology, Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing, and others.<\/p>
The report highlighted successful deployments of generative artificial intelligence, autonomous AI agents, Internet of Things, and robotic process automation across government operations. These technologies were deployed to automate procedures, enhance decision-making, and develop digital services in critical sectors.<\/p>
Government agencies reported economic savings and improved user experiences through proactive and innovative service delivery enabled by these technologies. The implementations demonstrate how agencies can leverage modern technical capabilities to increase efficiency while maintaining compliance and service quality standards.<\/p>
This progress supports Saudi Arabia’s goal of establishing a knowledge-based economy and a digitally advanced government sector.
