Regulatory fines have risen to an average of $51 million per organization.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Regional and industry impact<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Organizations in EMEA reported the highest average downtime costs at $354 million per year. In the Middle East, industries central to Gulf economies are hard hit. Information services and technology companies face $402 million annually. Energy and utilities lose $364 million, retail and consumer goods $357 million, and financial services $309 million.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These findings come as Middle Eastern organizations accelerate <a href=\"\/category\/ai\/\">digital transformation<\/a> initiatives. Increasing reliance on cloud environments and AI-driven operations makes resilience critical, the report said.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Hidden costs beyond lost revenue<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Eighty-one percent of technology leaders say downtime causes customer churn. Forty-seven percent admit customers are often the first to detect service degradation. Brand recovery takes an entire quarter for nearly 20% of marketing professionals.<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Customer churn: 81% cite loss of customers.<\/li><li>Operational drag: 89% need large teams to fix issues.<\/li><li>Increased support demand: 90% of tech leaders report higher customer support requests.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The intersection of security and downtime is also concerning. About 36% of security leaders say downtime is misclassified as an IT issue, giving attackers an advantage. Only 38% consistently identify the root cause of an outage.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The role of AI in resilience<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Organizations spend a median of $24.5 million annually on AI tools for downtime prevention and response. Companies identified as &#8220;AI Workflow and Triage Experts&#8221; show better outcomes: 74% avoided disclosing a data breach last year, compared to 54% of non-experts. They are nearly three times more likely to report never losing customers from downtime (42% vs. 15%). However, 68% of technology leaders worry their AI agents will behave unpredictably.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Building true digital resilience<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Among organizations with the lowest downtime costs, 98% say end-to-end visibility is very or extremely important. About 75% of ITOps and engineering leaders prioritize end-to-end observability as their top investment. Sixty-six percent are investing in automation to reduce human error, the leading cause of downtime.
