Saudi digital payments infrastructure is expanding as Geidea announced strategic technical accreditations and service preparations across its merchant network. The Saudi financial technology company secured National Payment Gateway accreditation to process electronic commerce transactions, obtained MPoC certification for its SoftPOS solution, and advanced preparations for contactless payment acceptance on iPhone devices.

National Payment Gateway Accreditation

Geidea secured eMSP NPG accreditation to process electronic commerce transactions through the National Payment Gateway. Consequently, this step enables direct connectivity across local and international card networks including mada, Visa, and Mastercard. The integration allows the company to route online transactions directly from its gateway to the national infrastructure.

The company will activate the new routing system gradually while maintaining existing operational paths as a backup. Existing merchants will continue using their current application programming interfaces without needing code changes or additional testing. In addition, the accreditation supports recurring payments, card credential storage, fund pre-authorization, in-app payments, refunds, and transaction reversals.

SoftPOS and iPhone Payment Acceptance

Geidea SoftPOS obtained MPoC certification, allowing merchants to convert Android smartphones into payment terminals. As a result, businesses can accept contactless transactions directly on mobile devices without requiring dedicated hardware. The system also supports direct personal identification number entry when required.

Meanwhile, the company is completing technical requirements to introduce Tap to Pay on iPhone in the local market. Launching the service remains subject to completing technical requirements and securing regulatory approvals from the Saudi Central Bank.

Expansion of Saudi digital payments Infrastructure

The new payment acceptance tools support broader adoption across the Economy & Business sector. Specifically, these solutions offer flexible options for small enterprises seeking alternatives to traditional point-of-sale terminals. Furthermore, direct integration with national infrastructure improves processing stability for high-volume merchants.

National Payment Growth Metrics

The operational expansion coincides with substantial growth in Saudi digital payments and online commerce. Data shows that electronic commerce transactions conducted through mada cards reached approximately SAR 325.2 billion in 2025, up from SAR 197.4 billion in 2024, reflecting an increase of approximately 65 percent.

Transaction volumes also rose to 1.77 billion from 1.13 billion during the same period. In total, electronic transactions accounted for 85 percent of individual retail payments in 2025 compared to 79 percent in 2024. Total electronic payments processed through national systems reached 14.6 billion transactions in 2025.
