Desert Technologies and EnerVenue agreed to launch an energy storage pilot in Saudi Arabia to evaluate specialized battery solutions across critical infrastructure sectors. The two companies established a cooperation framework through a Memorandum of Understanding signed in Jeddah. The initiative focuses on validating flexible power systems suited to local operational requirements.
The agreement coincided with the opening of EnerVenue’s high-volume manufacturing line in Changzhou, China. Both entities are preparing to install a battery system with an energy capacity of 215 kilowatt-hours during the first quarter of 2027. Consequently, the trial will test equipment performance under direct industrial conditions.
Deployment of the energy storage pilot
The planned energy storage pilot will evaluate the operational performance of EnerVenue’s proprietary Aqueous Metal Cell technology. Specifically, technical teams plan to test power distribution across sites requiring continuous operational readiness without grid disruptions.

Representatives at the signing ceremony included EnerVenue Chief Executive Officer Henning Rath and Chief Revenue Officer Dr. Rahul Mehta. Desert Technologies was represented by Haytham Abdo, General Manager of Partnerships and International Sales, alongside Majed Alsinan, General Manager of Commercial DT Power in Saudi Arabia.
Applications across industrial sectors
The deployment targets several demanding operational sectors. Target facilities include telecommunications towers, remote mining locations, oil and gas extraction plants, data centers, and off-grid microgrids. In addition, the modular storage format provides targeted backup supplies for facilities that cannot tolerate intermittent generation.
“Energy storage represents an essential component in developing a more flexible, efficient, and sustainable energy system, while enhancing the reliability and continuity of power supplies across specialized operational facilities.”
Khaled Alshuwaier, CEO of the Energy Sector at Desert Technologies
Furthermore, Alshuwaier stated that collaborating with EnerVenue allows both firms to assess battery response in local desert climates. This operational validation supports broader adoption among commercial complexes, digital facilities, and industrial utilities across the Kingdom.
Manufacturing and international operations
EnerVenue’s manufacturing facility in Changzhou provides the hardware foundation for the regional trial. desert Technologies aims to broaden its technical scope beyond energy generation into utility storage and resource efficiency. Moreover, the project aligns with the economic transformation goals set by Saudi Vision 2030, which emphasizes local industrial capabilities.
Future outlook for clean power
Through this energy storage pilot, both partners seek to build verified operational benchmarks before considering broader market adoption. The project addresses rising energy demand linked to nationwide industrial expansion and digital modernization. As a result, the early 2027 pilot represents a foundational milestone for domestic energy storage testing.
