TOYOTA RACING achieved a one-two victory at the 6 Hours of Barcelona to secure its eighth FIA World Endurance Championship manufacturers title with one round remaining in the season. Drivers Sébastien Buemi, Brendon Hartley, and Ryō Hirakawa took first place in the No. 8 TR010 HYBRID. Meanwhile, teammates Mike Conway, Kamui Kobayashi, and Nyck de Vries finished second in the No. 7 TR010 HYBRID to seal the team standing.

The result marks the fourth victory of the 2026 season for TOYOTA RACING in its inaugural year competing under that direct banner. Furthermore, the outcome confirms that a TOYOTA RACING lineup will secure the drivers crown, as the No. 8 car extended its championship margin over the No. 7 car to 17 points. The commercial stability of international racing remains tied to corporate investment in the global economy.

Decisive Moments at 6 Hours of Barcelona

The competition began under wet track conditions at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, where both crews started on wet tyres. Buemi started from second position and seized the lead during the opening stages in what marked his 100th career WEC start. In addition, de Vries progressed from ninth position on the starting grid to second place before the end of the opening hour.

Both cars maintained consistent pace as track conditions evolved over the six-hour duration. Hirakawa crossed the finish line 0.583 seconds ahead of de Vries after completing 198 laps. Consequently, the team registered its first one-two finish since the Bahrain round in 2025.

Penalty Recovery and Strategy

The No. 8 crew overcame an early operational setback during the race. Officials issued a five-second penalty for a starting procedure infringement, which Buemi served during his second scheduled pit stop. Hartley then built a 10-second advantage over Kobayashi by the midpoint of the race, while trailing competitors fell more than 20 seconds behind the leaders.

A safety car period with two hours remaining compressed the entire racing pack. However, both hybrid entries responded immediately by posting fresh fastest laps and rebuilding their gap over the field. Car No. 7 logged the fastest lap of the two at 1:32.379, while car No. 8 recorded a best lap of 1:32.420 during its 6:01:20.906 total running time.

Debut Season Performance

The victory at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya adds to previous wins at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the 6 Hours of Fuji. With the manufacturers title confirmed, the organization is guaranteed to complete the season holding both world championship trophies. Technical data generated on the track directly informs broader commercial automotive vehicle engineering programs.

“By winning round seven in Barcelona, we won TOYOTA RACING’s first manufacturers’ World Championship title with one race still remaining. This was the result of a true team effort.”

Season Finale at Monza

The organization relies on technical personnel development and specialized trackside education to refine vehicle components under demanding environments. The eighth and final round of the 2026 FIA WEC takes place at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza in Italy from November 6 to 8. Timing results from the 6 Hours of Barcelona ensure that the season finale will serve as the sole title decider between the two internal crews.
