Citi Token Services has expanded operations into the United Arab Emirates and Japan, increasing its live footprint to seven institutional markets globally. The financial institution announced that the service now facilitates real-time multi-currency payments and liquidity management across participating locations without cutoff times or holiday restrictions.

Expansion Across Seven Global Financial Hubs

Following the launch in the UAE and Japan, the solution operates across seven jurisdictions, including the United States, Ireland, Hong Kong, Singapore, and the United Kingdom. Corporate clients holding accounts in these jurisdictions can move funds continuously between linked accounts. In addition, the system operates on a private-permissioned blockchain to execute near-instantaneous transfers between corporate treasuries.

Citi Token Services in Key Markets

The deployment of Citi Token Services introduces specific currency clearing features tailored to institutional demand in both regions. In the UAE, the platform supports transactions in US Dollars and Euros, addressing multinational treasury operations. Meanwhile, the deployment in Japan enables US Dollar transactions for corporate and financial institutions.

“Expanding Citi Token Services into the UAE and Japan is an important milestone in scaling the network and bringing 24/7 liquidity solutions to more of the markets where our clients operate.”

Regional Trade and Liquidity Management

The expansion aligns with shifting cross-border flows across international trade corridors. The Middle East represents a rapidly growing region for real-time payments, serving as a gateway for capital flows between Africa and South Asia. Consequently, multinational treasuries require programmable tools to manage collateral and cash positioning outside standard banking hours.

“Expanding Citi Token Services into the UAE with USD and Euro capabilities enables clients to manage cross-currency liquidity 24/7, which is key to connecting the local ambitions of our corporate and financial institutional clients with their global expansion.”

Digital Asset Strategy for Institutional Treasuries

This initiative forms part of Citi’s broader institutional strategy connecting traditional banking systems with digital networks. By utilizing tokenized deposits, the bank enables institutions to optimize their daily working capital across borders. Furthermore, the banking group continues to invest in continuous clearing systems and multi-bank connectivity, while integrating secure cybersecurity protocols to protect transaction data.
