The Sony RIALTO 65 camera extension system has been introduced to expand the VENICE 2 CineAlta camera into large-format cinema production. Featuring a dedicated 65mm sensor with a 1.5:1 aspect ratio, the extension setup provides cinematographers with expanded creative framing capabilities. The unit integrates with existing VENICE 2 camera bodies to support high-end film projects.

Large Sensor Architecture in the Sony RIALTO 65

The sensor inside the unit measures 53.75 mm in width by 35.83 mm in height, providing a diagonal measurement of roughly 64.60 mm. Consequently, this imaging area is about 2.2 times larger than standard 35mm full-frame sensors. Filmmakers can capture subtle separations between subjects and backgrounds across expansive shooting angles.

Furthermore, the sensor supports 9.6K Open Gate capture at 1.5:1 along with a 9.6K 2.20:1 readout mode measuring 59.04 mm diagonally. Operators can choose between dual base sensitivities of ISO 2500 and ISO 10000. At Base ISO 2500, the camera provides more than 15 stops of dynamic range to record deep shadows and bright highlights accurately.

Operational Flexibility and Dual Shooting Modes

Weighing approximately 1.5 kg, the compact camera head measures 115 mm by 154 mm by 63 mm. The Sony RIALTO 65 functions in Studio Mode directly mounted to the VENICE 2 body or in Extension Mode as a separated camera unit. Handheld work and tight interior spaces become manageable with this modular configuration.

Connection cables between the camera head and the body come in 4.5-meter and 12-meter lengths. Because both ends detach easily, rig mounting and set preparations require minimal time. Moreover, internal sensors transmit tilt and roll measurements into recorded metadata for use in post-production and smart devices workflows.

Integration with Existing CineAlta Workflows

The system retains the colour science of CineAlta cameras, utilizing S-Log3 gamma and the wide S-Gamut3 colour space. In addition, recordings save in 16-bit X-OCN formats directly to standard AXS memory cards housed inside the VENICE 2 body. Studios can adopt large format shooting without purchasing new recording media or restructuring storage hardware.

Sony planned the RIALTO 65 to accommodate third-party lens mount adapters instead of incorporating a fixed mount. As a result, camera operators can attach a wide variety of dedicated 65mm cinema lenses. Electronic lens contacts capture focal length, aperture values, and focus distances for visual effects teams.

Production Hardware and Filter Mechanics

For anamorphic filming, the system provides de-squeeze monitor modes alongside a Zoom to Fit tool for accurate composition checking. In addition, the unit includes 11 drop-in neutral density filters fitted with electronic contacts. The VENICE 2 main body detects inserted filter densities automatically to speed up exposure adjustments during complex lighting setups.

Optional gear includes the CBK-NDK6510 replacement filter set and the CBK-12C6510 12-meter tether cable for distant setups. Sony stated that availability and regional pricing will be handled through authorized local distributors in Saudi Arabia.
