Mashreq generative AI tools have been introduced to enhance the bank’s fraud risk management through a partnership with Clari5, a Perfios company. The implementation focuses on improving fraud detection effectiveness, analyst productivity, and investigative decision-making.

The financial institution introduced these new features at its Innovation Hub in Dubai with leadership teams from both entities present. These tools apply artificial intelligence inside banking systems to assist fraud specialists during daily evaluations.

Operational Focus Areas for Detection

Financial crimes continue to grow in technical complexity as digital banking channels expand. Consequently, institutions require updated procedures to examine suspicious transactions while preserving client security.

“Fraud is becoming more sophisticated, and the way banks respond must adapt accordingly. At Mashreq, we are committed to implementing AI responsibly in areas where it can have a meaningful impact, strengthening the resilience of our operations and the trust our customers place in us.”

Integration of Mashreq Generative AI

The deployment of Mashreq generative AI helps analysts consolidate disparate data streams and accelerate active inquiries. Nitin Chugh, Managing Director and Group Chief Executive Officer at Perfios, explained that the technical objective is augmenting specialist knowledge rather than replacing human judgment.

Furthermore, Rania Nerhal, Group Chief Client Experience and Conduct Officer at Mashreq, stated that the technology interprets relevant information with higher speed, consistency, and precision. The integration forms part of the bank’s ongoing investments in updating its cybersecurity infrastructure.

On-Premises Compliance and Human Control

By incorporating Mashreq generative AI into its daily workflow, the institution maintains oversight over all automated outputs. Clari5 noted that financial institutions require models governed by specific internal banking rules rather than autonomous external systems.

“Banks don’t need AI that acts on its own. They need AI they can govern by their own rules. Clari5 has shown how AI can operate on-premises inside a bank’s own environment, grounded in the bank’s context, and remain auditable, explainable and under human control.”
