Dubai, UAE – Vertiv has officially launched the Vertiv PowerDirect 7100 Energy, a new hybrid DC power system designed to support the growing energy demands of 5G and edge computing across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA).

The system, available immediately, is engineered to manage power reliability in diverse environments, ranging from stable grids to off-grid remote locations. It specifically targets telecom operators looking to integrate alternative energy sources while maintaining network uptime.

Technical Specifications and Hybrid Capabilities

The Vertiv PowerDirect 7100 Energy offers up to 52 kW of scalable 48 V DC power. According to technical data released by the company, the system achieves up to 98% efficiency. It utilizes Vertiv’s fourth-generation hybrid architecture, which allows for the integration of traditional power grids and generators with alternative inputs such as solar panels, wind turbines, and fuel cells.

The architecture includes:

  • Vertiv™ solar converters.
  • Vertiv™ modular rectifiers.
  • Vertiv™ NetSure™ Control Unit (NCU) for load management.

These components work in tandem to optimize energy scheduling, a critical feature for operators attempting to reduce operational costs and equipment wear in remote sites.

Sustainability and Regional Suitability

This release comes as Saudi Arabia and the wider Gulf region accelerate the deployment of digital infrastructure under initiatives like Vision 2030. The system’s design addresses specific regional challenges, particularly extreme weather.

The unit features an operating tolerance of -40 °C to +65 °C, making it suitable for outdoor sites in the high-heat environments typical of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.

“The world expects energy efficiency and flexibility with the growth of communications, such as 5G and edge connectivity,” said Dave Wilson, director of global hybrid solutions at Vertiv. Wilson noted that the platform provides a single interface for managing various grid conditions, supporting the industry’s transition to cleaner energy strategies.

Deployment Configurations

Designed for space-constrained locations, the system features a front-access design to simplify maintenance. It is available in 500 A, 750 A, and 1000 A configurations, catering to different power density requirements within telecom and edge data racks.
