META has announced the launch of Muse Gadgets, an open-source initiative that allows developers to create custom hardware integrated with its personal artificial intelligence assistant. The project provides technical documentation, open-source firmware, and a Linux software development kit to help builders create physical devices. According to reporting by TechCrunch, the release is designed to broaden how the assistant interacts with everyday environments beyond traditional computer interfaces.

Open Source Hardware Tools for Developers

The newly published developer resources include firmware that runs directly on microcontrollers along with full software development kits. Builders can connect Muse to color electronic ink displays, television HDMI sticks, buttons, and sensors. The platform supports standard developer hardware, including Raspberry Pi single-board computers and ESP32 microcontrollers. In addition, META created a dedicated Discord channel to offer technical assistance and facilitate collaboration among hardware builders experimenting with smart devices.

Integrating Muse Gadgets in Smart Environments

Through the Muse Gadgets program, engineers can build custom accessories that connect physical inputs to digital automation. The assistant handles tasks such as booking travel arrangements, completing digital forms, and processing online orders for users. By linking these capabilities to external sensors and actuators, developers can trigger automated routines in residential or office environments. Furthermore, integration with connected hardware broadens the practical reach of advanced artificial intelligence models in daily routines.

Muse Home Link and Hardware Distribution

Alongside the open-source code release, META built a dedicated reference hardware unit named Muse Home Link. The device is powered via USB-C and connects directly to a local home network to manage appliances, smart televisions, and audio speakers. Nat Friedman, head of product at META Superintelligence Labs, stated that the company manufactured 5,000 units of the device to distribute to active subscribers. Consequently, the hardware serves as a reference design showing how community skills can operate physical household equipment.

Enterprise Expansion and Business Strategy

The introduction of Muse Gadgets coincides with broader commercial efforts by the technology company. META recently launched Muse for Small Business, providing integrations with productivity tools such as Shopify, Dropbox, and Slack. Meanwhile, the organization established the META Enterprise Platform business unit to deliver automated software tools to corporate clients. These moves reflect a strategy to expand specialized apps across both commercial workflows and consumer hardware setups.
