ELSEWEDY ELECTRIC
The joint venture of ELSEWEDY ELECTRIC PSP and Sinohydro has signed an EPC contract for the Rabigh 2 IPP expansion project valued at approximately $2.2 billion. Awarded by developer Al Mourjan Two for Electricity Company, the agreement initiates full-scale execution of the 2.3 GW combined-cycle gas turbine facility in Saudi Arabia.
Under the terms of the agreement, the joint venture manages design, engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and testing. Additionally, the group oversees all associated civil works and national grid interconnection, driving expansion in national economy infrastructure.
Rabigh 2 IPP Technical Specifications
The plant features an SGT6-5000F 2×(3×3×1) configuration comprising six Siemens SGT6-5000F gas turbines and two Siemens SST-5000 steam turbines. Furthermore, the installation includes six Heat Recovery Steam Generators, a cooling tower, a bypass stack, and a diverter damper for simple-cycle operation.
The facility integrates balance of plant mechanical, electrical, and control instrumentation systems. These specialized systems function alongside existing grid networks to ensure reliable power dispatch across municipal and industrial sectors.

Current Construction Progress and Milestones
Field activities began earlier under a Limited Notice to Proceed, allowing site operations to advance ahead of the formal contract signing. Specifically, overall progress on the project has surpassed 39% across multiple disciplines.
Workplace records confirm the site completed more than five million safe man-hours without lost-time incidents. This benchmark reflects the construction protocols implemented across active engineering zones.
“Rabigh 2 IPP Expansion is an important addition to Saudi Arabia’s power system, providing the reliable and flexible generation capacity needed to support the kingdom’s growing electricity demand.”
